Tom was one of the steering group and founding members of Balfron Heritage Group back in 1988 and was a font of knowledge, support, memories and advice until very recent times.
When Jim Thomson was researching his first Balfron book, Tom was the natural person to turn to. This resulted in a phonecall one Sunday afternoon with those immortal words “Never mind your archives, Jim, look out your wellies!” and within half an hour Tom, Jim and Tom’s granddaughter Eilidh were off along the banks of the Endrick to discover more about Balfron’s past than any document could match.
He was most certainly “Mister Balfron” and his imposing presence in the village will be sadly missed.
